US Senators Send Letter to CMS on Minimum Staffing Standards
Posted on February 16, 2023 by Mark Schulz
On Feb. 10, US Senate Special Committee on Aging Chairman Bob Casey (DFL-PA) and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (DFL-OR) sent a multi-member letter to CMS regarding upcoming regulations to create a minimum staffing standard.
The letter raised many of the same points covered in LeadingAge’s “Get Real on Ratios” proposal, such as recognizing the critical need for adequate reimbursement, acknowledging that one size does not fit all, and noting that workforce shortages must be addressed with additional support.
It is noteworthy that other prominent Democrats also signed the letter, including Senators Elizabeth Warren (DFL-MA), Cory Booker (DFL-NY), Kirsten Gillibrand (DFL-NY), Richard Blumenthal (DFL-CT), and Sherrod Brown (DFL-OH).
