LALD Legacy Candidates First License Renewal CE Requirements
Posted on April 28, 2022 by Bobbie Guidry
Legacy Licensed Assisted Living Directors (LALD) are nearing their first license renewal. The Board of Executives for Long Term Services and Supports (BELTSS) will soon send information about the renewal process to those who must renew.
In the meantime, several members have requested clarification of (continuing education) requirements for LALDs in this first year of license renewal.
For the initial two-year cycle of renewals and clock hours beginning in September for licenses expiring Oct. 31, keep in mind that:
- For LALDs initially licensed by Oct. 31, 2021, CEs are prorated to 15 credits.
- Legacy LALDs initially licensed after Nov. 1, 2021, need at least seven hours of the 15 hours of continuing education in topics related to assisted living facilities.
For renewals and obtaining and presenting CE credits, a year runs from Sept. 1 (prior year) to Aug. 31 (renewal year).
- Renewals begin Sept. 1.
- License renewals occur every year by Oct. 1 for successful license renewal.
- CE Renewals occur on even years only by Oct. 1 for successful license renewal.
Attestation Process
The renewal of licenses issued by BELTSS is moving to an attestation process. The Board will require each license holder to maintain their CE records. You must maintain approved CE records for four years, and the same CE must be maintained for the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) survey. The attestation will appear as follows: "I attest that I have fulfilled the continuing education requirements as submitted in this renewal. I agree to retain the documentation of the continuing education for four years and will submit the evidence or validation of attendance if requested by an audit. Clock hours earned by NAB, LeadingAge Minnesota and Care Providers of Minnesota are considered primary verified and do not need to be resubmitted in case of an audit. For this license renewal, I attest that I earned clock hours totaling ______ (insert text)".
You can find additional information on the BELTSS website. The BELTSS Board will also be communicating directly with all licensees.
Consider attending the LeadingAge Minnesota Assisted Living Conference on Aug. 17 and 18 to earn your CEUs!
