DOLI Holds First Apprenticeship Summit on March 7
Posted on February 27, 2018 by Laura Lutgens
You may have heard of apprenticeship as it relates our field through our Health Support Specialist registered apprenticeship program. The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) hopes to add more apprenticeship programs in healthcare in the future, and is hosting a free, one-day summit in March to showcase best practices and strategies to expand apprenticeships.
Apprenticeship is a successful and innovative employee training model that can be designed to meet employers' needs to recruit, train and retain a 21st century workforce. From day one, an apprentice earns, learns and works for their employers as they receive structured on-the-job training and related classroom instruction. Apprenticeships, like Health Support Specialist, can help employers develop highly-skilled and motivated employees, reduce turnover rates, increase worker productivity and lower the cost of recruitment.
The Minnesota Apprenticeship Summit, which takes place on March 7 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, celebrates the success of apprenticeship in Minnesota. In addition to speakers and panel discussions from a range of industries and organizations, there are specific workshops for employers who have may have years of experience with apprenticeship, such as the Health Support Specialist program, and for employers interested in creating their first program.
There is no cost to attend the Summit, which includes breakfast, lunch and all workshops. Registration is required. For more information or to register, see Minnesota Apprenticeship Summit.
