Changing LALD/ALDIR for Assisted Living Licensed Facility
Posted on December 16, 2021 by Bobbie Guidry
With assisted living licensees several months into the new licensing structure, several directors have transitioned from one position to another. When a director leaves an assisted living setting or the setting gets a new director, they must notify the Board of Executives for Long-term Services and Supports (BELTSS).
BELTSS recently provided reminders of the licensing rule requirements and step-by-step instructions for changing the “director of record.” By law, each licensed assisted living setting must employ a director of record, who must notify BELTSS within five working days when leaving a current position or beginning a new job.
To update the director of record:
Click here for information about updating your Director of Record.
- Log onto your online portal on the BELTSS website.
- Locate licensing in the black header and click on "online services." This will take you to the login page, where you will put in your username and the password you chose when applying for your license.
- Click on “profile view” on the left side panel. You must have an active license to complete this step. For an Assisted Living Director In Residence (ALDIR), submit your facility name and HFID to beltss.hlb@state.mn.us so that they can add the facility to your permit.
- Locate the blue pencil, which will allow you to edit your administrator/director of record location. If you do not see your site, please submit an email to hlb@state.mn.us to add your locations to your license.
- Enter your start and end dates as the administrator/director of record.
By completing this process, BELTSS will record the change and notify the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS). You must remember this critical task any time a change occurs. It is the LALD's or ALDIR's responsibility, not the responsibility of the assisted living setting. All state agencies use this information to ensure that the community is led by a licensed professional.
When this process is completed, no further notification to MDH is needed.
If you cannot locate your assisted living on the drop-down, please contact Ciara.Morris@state.mn.us with the community's name and the Health Facility ID issued by the Minnesota Department of Health. Board staff will validate the MDH issued license and update the facility record within the BELTSS system.
You can find step-by-step instructions and a video tutorial on the website.
