Senior Care Providers Take Maltreatment Reports Seriously
Posted on May 9, 2018 by Jodi Boyne
A commentary by the Long-Term Care Imperative supporting important work being advanced in the final weeks of session on preventing maltreatment was published in the Duluth News Tribune on Monday.
Senior Care Providers Take Maltreatment Reports Seriously included these excerpts:
“Providers of long-term care are committed to the safety and wellness of all we serve. Caregiving is the calling of our staff teams and improving the lives of others is their life's career. While even one case of elder abuse is one too many, the stories of alleged maltreatment that have been reported in the media are not representative of the quality care, services, and support more than 100,000 older Minnesotans receive each day from dedicated caregivers in nursing homes and assisted-living communities throughout our state.”
“Important work is being advanced in these final weeks of the legislative session. This is work we fully support and have helped shape. We expect results in better and more swift investigations into maltreatment reports, better information for elders and their families on their care choices and what they can expect from their care providers, more effective regulatory oversight of assisted living through a licensure framework, enhanced standards for the care of persons with dementia, and a new emphasis on how we can protect seniors through shared data analysis and training for caregivers.”
The Long-Term Care Imperative is legislative collaborative effort between LeadingAge Minnesota and Care Providers of Minnesota. To read the entire commentary, see Senior Care Providers Take Maltreatment Reports Seriously via the Duluth News Tribune.
