Safe Care for Seniors News: Addressing COVID-related De-conditioning in the Elderly
Posted on March 3, 2021 by Julie Apold
As part of our Safe Care for Seniors work, we have a process in place for collaborative learning and sharing called “Safe Tables.” A Safe Table is a safe space to come together and explore a specific and actionable quality/safety issue by conducting a deep dive into the key factors contributing to the issue and developing and sharing successful strategies and tools.
We will soon convene an interdisciplinary Advisory Group to begin work on our next topic – COVID-related De-Conditioning. This includes functional decline in residents who have had their mobility and cognition impacted by the effects of COVID and isolation.
In the coming months, watch for recommendations and tools on this important topic. Also watch for a Safe Care for Seniors Institute Session on this topic featuring one of our advisory group members, Dr. Kathleen Weissberg, who is the National Director of Education at Select Rehabilitation.
New to Safe Care? Register to attend the upcoming 3-part virtual workshop: A Practice Guide to Providing Safe Care for Seniors starting April 6.
