Resource Roundup: COVID-19
Posted on April 14, 2020 by Jodi Boyne
In the past week, LeadingAge MN has added 5 new tools to our COVID-19 Resource Library focused on surge assessment and preparation, cohorting, dementia care and facemasks. We have also updated two key resources: confirmed case containment checklist and managing a resident admission from a hospital decision tree.
NEW TOOLS
Surge Assessment Tool: Assess and strengthen your surge preparation plan. The tool features five categories -- Clinical/Operational; Supplies; Staffing; and Crisis Communications – with resources in each category to provide examples that you can use as a reference or to customize your organization’s plan.
Cohorting Guide: Separating COVID-19 positive residents from your non-COVID-19 resident population and caring for them in a designated area is an effective strategy to reduce virus transmission. Use this one-page guide to plan and implement your strategy.
Decision Tree – Dementia: Understand COVID-19 Positive Case Considerations for Residents with Dementia and guide decision making on how best to care for them.
Dementia Care Tips & Strategies: Identify strategies and tips for keeping residents with dementia safe and engaged during COVID-19, and ensure a connection between them and their families.
Video Training – Facemasks: Watch our 8-minute COVID-19 Brief for an overview of the current guidance on facemasks, understand what types are appropriate for staff to wear based on their potential exposure to patients with COVID-19 and job responsibilities, and how to best maintain and clean facemasks.
REVISED TOOLS
Checklist: Confirmed Case Containment: Updated to reflect guidance on screening all essential visitors upon arrival, conserving PPE and using alternative face masks – practices you may already have in place.
Decision Tree: Managing a Resident Admission from a Hospital: Updated to reflect additional detail from the April 8 MDH guidance on managing admitted residents and when you can discontinue transmission-based precautions.
