Reminder: Check Exclusions Databases Monthly
Posted on July 8, 2020 by Jonathan Lips
Organizations that participate in the Medicare or Medicaid programs are prohibited from employing or contracting with a person or vendor on the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Inspector General (OIG), List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Each month the OIG updates the LEIE with newly-excluded individuals and entities, as well as reinstatements. In addition to the monthly updates provided by the OIG, providers can access an archive of updates from prior months.
In addition to checking the federal OIG database, providers must document that they have checked the Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) Excluded Group Providers and Excluded Individual Providers each month. These state exclusion lists are updated regularly.
Individual or group providers may be on the Minnesota list before being added to the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Continue to check the OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities when you employ or enter into contracts with individuals or entities to provide services or items to recipients, in addition to the MHCP lists, before hiring an individual.
Contact the Minnesota Department of Human Services Provider Call Center at 651.431.2700 or 1.800.366.5411 to verify information that may not be clear on the list, such as a person with a similar name, or a person with the same name who is shown as a different provider type.
