Posted on August 22, 2024 by Bobbie Guidry
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) center for homeless and housing resources sponsored a webinar on August 7 titled “Public Housing and Serious Mental: Practical Recommendations for Housing Providers.” The recording is now available.
Serious Mental Illness in Residential Settings
The webinar provided an overview of serious mental illness for affordable housing communities, including symptoms and medications, a review of effective policies and programs, a discussion of applied scenarios and recommendations, and a Q&A with experts. It was intended for public housing authorities (PHAs) and HUD Multifamily Housing providers, as well as for other types of housing and services providers. The webinar also included discussions of scenarios at housing communities and how housing staff can use trauma-informed approaches for various representations of mental illness.
While developed for public housing, the webinar guidance is helpful to all residential settings.
