Provider Enrollment is Key Step after Assisted Living Licensure
Posted on June 16, 2021 by Jeff Bostic
With Assisted Living Licensure taking effect on Aug. 1 of this year, those settings that provide customized living services under the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) waiver programs need to take action to ensure continued waiver payment.
The DHS website has a page with information specific to customized living providers and AL licensure, including how to apply for a new provider enrollment or update an existing enrollment. Providers can update enrollment and apply for a new enrollment using the Minnesota Provider Screening and Enrollment (MPSE) portal. DHS is offering training on this new online provider enrollment system regularly, the next session being on Friday, June 25.
Information about registering for training is on the DHS customized living page, as is a document the LTC Imperative developed (posted under "Resources") about the intersection between licensure and provider enrollment. Here is a shorthand way of thinking about what needs to be done for provider enrollment after licensure:
- If the currently enrolled customized living provider (the home care agency) has the same owner name and Federal Tax ID as the new licensed assisted living provider, providers need to submit to DHS a copy of the new license to update their enrollment and continue payment. They do not need to go to the portal and submit anything until they have a license from MDH.
- If the currently enrolled customized living provider (the home care agency) does not have the same owner name and Federal Tax ID as the new licensed assisted living provider, a new provider enrollment application will need to be completed by the assisted living licensee. To expedite the completion of new enrollments, DHS encourages providers in this situation to begin the provider enrollment process now and not to wait for a license from MDH.
