Out of Reach: Wages Don’t Support Housing Needs for Senior Living Workers

Jobs in senior living and care centers will continue to be among the fastest-growing types over the next decade, but wages continue to be a barrier to staff recruitment and retention.
In a recent report published by the National Low-Income Housing Coalition, it was noted that staff in senior living and care centers earn less than what it takes to be able to comfortably afford one- or two-bedroom housing.
The 2018 “Out of Reach” report based its findings on data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in addition to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
