Our Lady of Peace Hospice Partners with Macalester College for a Unique Learning Experience

Our Lady of Peace Hospice, a valued member of LeadingAge Minnesota, was recently featured in a Star Tribune article highlighting their partnership with Macalester College in St. Paul.
Students from Macalester's "Anthropology of Death & Dying" course volunteered with Our Lady of Peace Hospice to gain a deeper understanding of the dying process.
Student volunteer Laura Sullivan shared her positive experience, stating, "I've just really enjoyed my time there." She appreciates the staff’s dedication to ensuring patients have whatever makes them happy in their final weeks and days.
Anthropology professor and former hospice nurse Ron Barrett aims to help his students grasp how the perception of time changes with age. Barrett’s class explores cultural and historical perspectives on death, noting how in the 20th century, death in the U.S. shifted to older ages and hospital settings. He remarked, "I think there was a better, more realistic view on mortality, and it was more part of life."
We are proud of Our Lady of Peace Hospice for their impactful collaboration with the community and education. You can find a link to the full article here.
