Nursing Homes Action Alert: Write to CMS to Oppose Proposed Payment Cuts
Posted on May 19, 2022 by LeadingAge
We encourage care centers to participate in a letter-writing campaign targeted at payment cuts proposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
On April 11, CMS issued its 2023 Skilled Nursing Facility proposed payment rule. Among other issues that raise concern, CMS proposes a 3.9% payment update offset by a 4.6% reduction due to a proposed parity adjustment of the patient-driven payment model (PDPM), resulting in a $320 million payment reduction to Skilled Nursing Facilities in the federal fiscal year 2023.
Our partners at LeadingAge have launched a call to action that provides an easy mechanism for aging services providers to write CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure. The messages emphasize just how damaging lower Medicare reimbursement rates will be, especially as nursing homes are still dealing with increased expenditures due to the pandemic and the ongoing staffing crisis.
It is simple and quick to participate. When you enter the page, you'll find a message template that you can customize with any details you'd like to include about your setting, challenges you are facing and the impact the proposed cuts would have. When your message is complete, one click will deliver the message.
Next month LeadingAge Minnesota will also be submitting formal comments to CMS about the rule and supporting members in doing so too. Still, this action alert is an essential first step designed to advocate directly to CMS leadership about the harm of the proposed payment cuts.
Thank you for your advocacy and for helping ensure the voices of Minnesota providers are heard! Tell CMS how damaging lower Medicare reimbursement rates would be as providers face historic workforce and financial challenges and as COVID continues to affect our communities.
