New Sexual Abuse Training Materials Available to all Minnesota Nursing Homes
Posted on October 28, 2021 by Lori Meyer
To help raise awareness of sexual assault, an issue that can be difficult to address, the State Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Committee has developed a set of materials that you can use to train on this serious topic.
The training is designed for caregivers and other long-term care facility staff and is intended to help staff protect the elderly from abuse. The facility materials include two 30-minute training videos, along with a participant guide for facility staff. Also included are a shorter video and discussion guide for resident and family councils.
These compelling videos were professionally filmed using subject matter experts, including health care professionals, legal authorities, and law enforcement. Included are a comprehensive set of guidelines on looking for signs of abuse, what to do if you suspect a crime has been committed, and what to do (and not do) at a crime scene. The training also details the roles and responsibilities of professionals in investigating a crime or suspected crime.
Starting Nov. 1, all Minnesota nursing homes will begin receiving boxes with printed participant guides for facility staff and some printed discussion guides for resident and family councils. These boxes will be shipped via FedEx.
An instructional webinar for this training will be held in early 2022. However, facilities are free to view and use the materials at any time.
The videos are posted on YouTube. You can access the links from the Minnesota Civil Monetary Penalty (CMP) Initiative web page under the project heading.
