Posted on December 1, 2022 by Kari Everson
Minnesota’s medical cannabis program allows for the use of cannabis for Minnesota residents with qualifying medical conditions. On Nov. 30, the Office of Medical Cannabis announced the addition of two new diagnoses to the list: irritable bowel syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
New conditions take effect in 2023
Patients with the new qualifying conditions are eligible to enroll in the state’s medical cannabis program starting on July 1, 2023. Once an individual completes an application, those new enrollees will be able to receive medical cannabis beginning Aug. 1. Medical cannabis from two state-approved medical manufacturers.
Operational considerations
The use of medical cannabis in our settings is a complex issue. Adding these two qualifying conditions does not change how nursing homes and assisted living settings address medical cannabis with residents.
