Posted on January 16, 2025 by Sharon Hollister
On Tuesday, February 11 from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., aging services professionals will gather for Saying Goodbye Is So Hard: Navigating SNF and AL Discharges and Terminations, a pre-conference intensive workshop dedicated to a challenging aspect of long-term care—managing discharges, terminations, and transfers.
This multi-hour session promises an in-depth exploration of the legal, practical, and ethical nuances of these transitions in Minnesota’s assisted living and skilled nursing facility settings. Sponsored by Consonus Healthcare.
This workshop is one of four Pre-Conference Intensive Sessions on Tuesday, Feb. 11 prior to the 2025 Institute & Expo. Intensives may be attended separately from Institute or added on to your Institute registration. A separate registration and fee is required.
About the Intensive
Discharging a resident or terminating an assisted living contract is rarely straightforward. This workshop offers participants a chance to gain clarity on the statutory requirements and documentation best practices that govern these processes under Minnesota law. Beyond the legal framework, the session will delve into the interpersonal and ethical challenges often encountered, such as handling resident resistance and addressing family concerns.
Through a combination of expert-led discussions, real-life case studies, and interactive learning, attendees will acquire tools to manage these transitions effectively and compassionately. Administrative, nursing, and caregiving professionals will leave this workshop ready to handle these challenging transitions with both competence and compassion.
