MDH Initiates Workgroup to Address Residents Relocation During AL Licensure
Posted on March 10, 2021 by Bobbie Guidry
MDH has convened a group of stakeholders to discuss processes and concerns that may arise related to a need for a resident to relocate due to the upcoming assisted living licensure implementation. The Department anticipates that, in some situations, a current provider may decide to discontinue services rather than pursue licensure, and that some providers may close.
In the first meeting held this week, the group was asked to identify concerns and to develop fact sheets to assist providers and consumers to communicate upcoming changes.
The initial discussion focused on concerns from case managers regarding finding appropriate settings for individuals who may be displaced due to a lack of affordable housing and limited provider openings, particularly in settings equipped to meet the needs of individuals with mental illness or a criminal history. We also discussed a lack of providers in some parts of the state, provider engagement throughout the process and the time it may take to find appropriate alternative settings.
Alongside association staff, Michelle Klegon is representing LeadingAge Minnesota on the workgroup. We ask you to contact us if your organization intends to eliminate services or to close rather than transition to an assisted living license. Please also share issues you anticipate related to relocation of residents should the need arise.
