MDH Announces Approved Moratorium Applications
Posted on April 11, 2024 by Jeff Bostic
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) recently informed the nursing homes that submitted proposals for the current moratorium exceptions round of whether they were approved.
A total of seven were approved at a state annual cost of just over $1.3 million. That leaves over $3 million available for another round of the process, which MDH will announce later this year.
We are pleased that providers are interested in making much-needed building improvements by accessing the significant moratorium exceptions funding that is available. The approved projects are below, and all but one are LeadingAge MN members:

Under the nursing facility property rate system, a moratorium exception approval allows the provider to have their entire property rate calculated based on a rental value formula adopted by the 2019 Legislature. That formula is more straightforward and tends to produce a better rate than the old system, so between that and the ongoing funding commitment from the 2021 Legislature, the moratorium exceptions process has become an essential and effective tool for upgrading and replacing nursing homes across the state.
