Leadership Academy Begins Year of Learning, Professional Growth
Posted on May 16, 2024 by Barbara Landeen
The 2024 Leadership Academy cohort has embarked on an exciting year of learning and leadership development.
The class of 52 leaders met May1-2 at Friendship Village of Bloomington for a two-day session on Authentic Leadership. This year’s participants represent the spectrum of service delivery, professional roles, and come from all corners of the state. We also welcome six volunteer coaches who are graduates of the program. View the class roster and volunteer coaches here.
Highlights of the two days included a leadership talk with LeadingAge Minnesota President and CEO Kari Thurlow who shared her journey from lawyer to lobbyist to CEO including insights and lessons learned, and her vision and hopes for the future of aging services.
Friendship Village Executive Director David Miller welcomed the group with a campus tour. He shared unique perspective of the parallels between long-term care and the hospitality field where he spent the first half of his career.
This was the first of four in-person, two-day workshops that conclude in November. Along the way, participants will study emotional intelligence, leading teams, inspiring and motivating others, and many other leadership concepts. The year culminates with a personally selected and executed Action Learning Project which applies learning to real-time opportunities in their organization.
Since 2010, Leadership Academy has developed the leadership capacity and core competencies of more than 460 aging services professionals by tapping into their natural talents and authentic leadership style. This begins the fifteenth year of our flagship leadership development program.
