The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) has new resources to assist workers and employers in understanding their workplace rights and protections regarding Minnesota’s earned sick and safe time (ESST) law.
Minnesota’s current sick and safe leave law remains in effect until Dec. 31 and will be replaced by the new earned sick and safe time law on Jan. 1, 2024.
Overview video
DLI has also posted a new video that gives an overview of the earned sick and safe time law. It's also available in Somali and Spanish versions.
FAQ
DLI has added frequently asked questions on its website about the new earned sick and safe time law. It includes example scenarios and different options employers may take to implement the law in their workplaces, including accrual, front-loading, and carryover provisions.
Webinar
DLI is holding several informational webinars about earned sick and safe time, each repeating the same presentation and information.
The webinar will review what employers and employees need to know about earn sick and safe time, including who is covered, how accrual and front-loading work, and how it interacts with existing employer-paid time off programs. Visit dli.mn.gov/events to register for the webinar.
