Posted on January 30, 2025 by Sharon Hollister
On Tuesday, February 11 from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., aging services professionals will gather for Saying Goodbye Is So Hard: Navigating SNF and AL Discharges and Terminations, a pre-conference intensive workshop dedicated to a challenging aspect of long-term care—managing discharges, terminations, and transfers.
This multi-hour session promises an in-depth exploration of the legal, practical, and ethical nuances of these transitions in Minnesota’s assisted living and skilled nursing facility settings. Sponsored by Consonus Healthcare.
This workshop is one of four Pre-Conference Intensive Sessions on Tuesday, Feb. 11 prior to the 2025 Institute & Expo Feb. 12-13 at the St. Paul RiverCentre. Additional preconference topics included governance, leadership, and emergency preparedness for assisted living communities. Intensives may be attended separately from Institute or added on to your Institute registration. A separate registration and fee is required.
Participants will:
- Identify the statutory requirements for discharging nursing home residents and terminating assisted living contracts under Minnesota law.
- Learn best practices for supporting residents throughout the discharge or termination process to ensure successful transitions.
- Discuss effective strategies for nursing and administrative staff in documenting and preparing for potential discharges, transfers, or terminations.
- Review key regulations governing terminations, transfers, and discharges in Minnesota assisted living communities.
