DHS Implementing Changes to Preadmission Screening Process
Posted on December 30, 2021 by Jeff Bostic
Effective next Wednesday, Jan. 5, the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) will be implementing changes to the preadmission screening process for care centers.
The changes are being made to simplify the process and to comply with some new federal requirements. These changes were originally planned for December but were later delayed until early 2022.
As part of the updating of the process, a new form will be used by lead agencies to identify individuals in need of additional screening before admission due to developmental disability or mental illness. The most significant change with the new policy is that any “yes” answer to a mental illness question will prompt a Level II screening, which is expected to significantly increase the number of people receiving that screening before a care center admission.
