DHS Conducting HCBS Transportation Access Study
Posted on June 19, 2018 by Jeff Bostic
The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has contracted with Navigant Consulting, the company that is also conducting studies on Elderly Waiver rates and the role of Adult Day services, to conduct a study of transportation access for home and community-based service enrollees, including both the elderly and disabled populations.
Goals of the study include:
- Increase access to reliable and accessible transportation services across the state for people receiving HCBS services
- Accomplish effective collaboration between transportation service providers
- Achieve transportation service efficiencies
- Make recommendations regarding reimbursement of HCBS funded transportation services
LeadingAge Minnesota will be participating in the Transportation Access Advisory Group that will meet with Navigant and DHS several times this summer to discuss issues and potential solutions around transportation access.
Member input will be important to our ability to make sure the study addresses all the key issues in this challenging area. Members who have experienced with transportation access, either in trying to provide the service themselves or working with outside transportation providers, are encouraged to contact Jeff Bostic to share their experiences.
