DHS Announces Cycling Without Age Grant Program
Posted on February 24, 2021 by Lori Meyer
The Minnesota Department of Human Services, through the Nursing Facility Rates and Policy (NFRP) Division and the State Civil Monetary Penalties (CMP) Initiative, is seeking proposals from qualified Minnesota Medicaid-Certified Nursing Facilities that are interested in implementing a Cycling Without Age (CWA) Program.
Cycling Without Age (CWA) is a recreationally focused activity that takes the resident out of the nursing facility environment and introduces (or re-introduces) the resident into the surrounding community by providing nursing facility residents “trishaw rides.”
Successful applicants will receive grant funding that will cover half the cost of a trishaw and the costs of training and implementation assistance from CWA. Selected nursing facilities must be willing and able to provide the funds to cover the remaining cost of the trishaw (approximately $ 5,782.40).
Participating facilities must also:
- Provide staff support sufficient to successfully operate a CWA program;
- Report the numbers of staff and pilots trained and the numbers of passengers served and rides provided during the first year of the program; and
- Complete a follow-up survey to assess the impact of the program on residents, staff and family.
Applications are due no later than midnight on April 30. An informational webinar will be held on Friday, March 5, at 11 a.m. For more information, visit DHS online and select the “Civil Monetary Penalty (CMP) Initiative” link on the page.
