Posted on February 8, 2024 by Libbie Chapuran
LeadingAge Minnesota proudly honors Lloyd Ward, a dedicated volunteer at Martin Luther Care Center in Bloomington, MN, as the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award for his exceptional service spanning over three decades.
The Volunteer of the Year Award, presented by LeadingAge Minnesota, recognizes individuals who demonstrate unwavering dedication and make a positive impact on the lives of seniors and their communities through volunteering in older adult services.
About Lloyd
At 90 years old, Mr. Ward serves as an inspiring example of commitment and selflessness. Since 1988, he has devoted more than 10,000 hours to volunteering at Martin Luther Care Center, enriching the lives of countless seniors in Bloomington.
Together with his late wife, Mary, Mr. Ward was an integral part of the volunteer community at Martin Luther Care Center. Their 15-year service to the Auxiliary, managing the gift shop, volunteering at holiday open houses, and consistent annual donations showcased their deep commitment to the community. Even after the passing of his beloved wife, Ward's dedication to serving the community remained steadfast.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lloyd adapted to virtual volunteering, ensuring continuity in supporting the community's well-being. As restrictions eased, he eagerly returned to in-person volunteering, expanding his involvement to various areas of the care center, including the business office and admissions. His efforts significantly contributed to achieving an impressive 84% response rate for the resident satisfaction survey.
