Care Centers to Select New QIIP Goals
Posted on September 29, 2022 by Jeff Bostic
DHS announced in August that they had opened the selection process for all care centers in the Medical Assistance program to select a new goal to work on for another round of the Quality Improvement Incentive Payment Program (QIIP). Each year, based on their progress toward the goal they select, care centers receive a rate increase of $0 to $3.50 per resident day for QIIP.
Under QIIP, care centers select one Minnesota Nursing Home Report Card quality of care or quality of life measure to improve using their choice of interventions. This year the available choices again include the quality of life survey measures and for the first time include hospitalization and community discharge rates. This year selections are due by October 1, 2022 so members who have not submitted a selection are encouraged to make a selection quickly. The rate adjustment based on this selection is effective January 1, 2024.
DHS has produced a guide which explains how the selection process works and how to interpret the QIIP information that is posted on each facility’s page on the DHS nursing facility portal. Once providers have chosen a measure to work on for the year, they submit that choice through the portal and watch for updates on their performance relative to the goal.
