Billing Guidance for Care Center Staff Testing
Posted on December 2, 2020 by Jeff Bostic
Due to the overlapping mandates for testing of staff and residents during outbreaks and of staff based on the positivity rate in the county, the Long-term Care Imperative has been working with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Department of Human Services (DHS) on clarifying how staff testing should be billed when both requirements apply.
This document that has been reviewed by MDH and DHS lays out the recommended way to bill tests in those situations.
In summary, the document states that if a round of testing covers all staff and residents due to an outbreak, the lab should bill the staff tests to insurance. If a round of testing covers only staff due to the twice a week staff testing mandate those tests should be billed by the lab to the facility.
