Assisted Living License Renewals on the Horizon
Posted on February 17, 2022 by Bobbie Guidry
Assisted living licenses must be renewed annually. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) intends to send renewal notices to current licensees on or about May 1. Renewal applications must be submitted at least 60 calendar days before the license's expiration. The renewed licenses are effective Aug. 1. MDH will issue fines for licenses that are not renewed in a timely manner.
Subsequent renewals for years after 2022 will be assigned randomized renewal dates to spread the renewals out over a year. There will be a process to request a change of designated renewal dates for certain circumstances detailed in the Assisted Living Statute 144G.191, including:
- A change to the randomly assigned renewal period based on financial hardship; and
- For licensees with more than one assisted living facility license to request that all license renewal dates occur in the same month or different months throughout the year.
MDH held a webinar today, which covered the renewal topic. You can view the notes and presentation on the MDH website if you missed it.
