Alzheimer’s Association Releases New Guidance for Dementia Care
Posted on January 23, 2018 by Jodi Boyne
The Alzheimer’s Association last week released new recommendations designed to shape dementia care practices in care centers, assisted living, and home and community-based services.
The guidelines specifically focus on guiding person-centered care in all settings that provide long term services and supports, including tips for community-based and residential care providers on detecting, diagnosing and medically managing patients. Other topics include assessment and care planning; information, education and support; ongoing care for behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia; support of activities in daily living; staffing; supportive and therapeutic environments; transitions and coordination of services.
For more information, see Dementia Care Practice Recommendations.
The Alzheimer’s Association will share these recommendations with federal policymakers in February.
