New online training will help food service staff be better prepared to serve an allergen safe meal and prevent a food allergic reaction.
In the U.S., 9 million adults and 5.9 million children have a food allergy and more than 170 foods cause reactions. The eight major allergens are: milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, wheat, soy, fish and crustacean.
The online training, Food Allergen Training for Food Services Employees, costs $25 per person and includes one hour of continuing education credit for certified good managers. Course content includes:
- What is a food allergy;
- Preparing and serving an allergen safe meal;
- Food handlers role to prevent a food allergic reaction; and
- Emergency response to a reaction.
The training is provided by the Minnesota Department of Health Food Safety Partnership and the University of Minnesota Extension program. Register Today!
