Resources for Supporting New Americans in Long-Term Care Workforce Roles
The LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation, with funding support from the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) GEAR Division, has developed a collection of practical, real-world resources to support New Americans in aging services careers.
New Americans are essential to the strength and future of long-term care in Minnesota. Immigrants and refugees bring skill, compassion, knowledge, and deep commitment to caring for older adults and supporting families. When New Americans are welcomed, supported, and given opportunities to grow, long-term care communities become stronger, more inclusive, and better equipped to meet the needs of Minnesota’s growing aging population.
These resources were shaped by the voices of those closest to the work. Members of the Immigrant Voices Advisory Council and the Employer Voices Advisory Council shared their lived experience and expertise to identify what solutions are most needed, and to guide the development of resources and tools that are practical and meaningful. The following resources provide multilingual, culturally responsive support for both employees and employers—covering everything from recruitment and training, workplace belonging and retention, and career advancement.
